White blood cells (WBC)
White blood cells (mostly neutrophils) are usually spherical cells with a diameter of 10-15 µm. Pyuria, the presence of white blood cells in urine, can indicate bacterial and abacterial infections of the urinary tract and the kidneys, as well as inflammation or lesions, e.g. in context of lithiasis.
White blood cell clumps
The term ‘white blood cell clumps’ describes the aggregation of individual WBC into larger clusters. Since the adhesion of WBC is a result of an activation of the cells in context of an immunological response, WBC clumps indicate inflammatory or infectious conditions.
